dem_import

Added by Kang Liang almost 3 years ago

Hi,

I am using dem_import to import dem in geotiff format to gamma format.
The dem contains volcano and ocean.
I find that the non-values in dem are not well recognized.

Attached are the visualization from disdem_par. You can find some data of the ocean areas are recognized as nonvalue and some are 0.

The original dem file is 3DEP dem 3dep_n53w170.tif downloaded from https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/#/

I am using the GAMMA_SOFTWARE-20211208.

Thanks a lot!

dem_import and working with DEM data with the GAMMA software - Added by Charles Werner almost 3 years ago

Hello,

Attached is a short readme Alaska_DEM.txt on processing the data for an DEM
download from the same USGS server. The issues you are seeing should be dealt
with using these steps.

Our experience is that the Copernicus DEM is excellent for terrain geocoding of
radar. It is more up to date and has
fewer errors than the USGS DEM. Here is how to download these data:

#
  1. Copernicus DEM 30m and 90m data are freely available for everyone, while the
    10m version is available for
  2. Copernicus member countries. #
  3. The process starts with mandatory registration (29-Jun-2020):
  4. - follow the instructions described in
    https://ssoidp.copernicus.eu/idp/umsso20/login?faq
  5. - the account should be ready the next day
  6. - sign in: https://cdsportal.copernicus.eu/web/spdm/home
  7. - you should have an automatic subscription to the Copernicus DEM (otherwise
    get it)
  8. - use the Panda interface
    (https://panda.copernicus.eu/web/cds-catalogue/panda) to select
    #   and download DEM tiles (COP-DEM_GLO-90-DGED/2019_1)
  9. - for bulk download, connect using an FTP client as described here:

  10. https://spacedata.copernicus.eu/documents/20126/0/Data+Discovery+and+Download+Guidelines+(8).pdf
  11. - the DEM in GeoTIFF format is in the DEM directory, the AUXFILES directory
    contains additional information

Examples are shown in the Gamma demo for working with DEMs.
